upstash/context7
An MCP server that lets Claude Code, Cursor and similar tools fetch up-to-date official docs and examples for libraries, so AI writes fewer outdated APIs.
Why pick itSet it up once, then add "use context7" to a prompt. Especially useful for fast-moving frameworks like Next.js and React.

Good for
- Give coding agents current, version-specific docs and examples for libraries
- Reduce outdated or hallucinated APIs in generated code
- Name a library ID or version in the prompt, such as Next.js 16
- Search libraries and fetch docs directly with the ctx7 CLI
Getting started
- Run claude mcp add context7 -- npx -y @upstash/context7-mcp (or npx ctx7 setup, which needs Node.js 22.13+)
- Add "use context7" to your prompt, for example when asking about Next.js or Supabase
- To trigger it automatically, add a rule in CLAUDE.md telling the agent to always use Context7 for library docs
Before you install
A free API key from context7.com/dashboard is recommended for higher rate limits.
